Local Landmarks Half

I had been struggling for motivation a bit this week and hadn't been out but I had decided that I was going to do my Local Landmarks run - www.llhm.co.uk/local-landmarks and I had been really looking forward to it all week.

Not being people for doing things by halves me and the future Mrs Katie went the whole hog. She didn't run with me today because she is still a bit broken but we will swap roles soon when she does her local landmarks.

So here is my run (solo and at appropriate distances from other runners) ...

(I must also acknowledge how lucky I am that these world famous landmarks are on a 13 mile loop from home)

Bag drop attendant was suitably grumpy

To be honest I could have done with the starting gantry being a bit bigger but in times of crisis you make do with what you can get I suppose!

Neighbourhood number 1 - Greenwich.
The Royal Observatory and the meridian line - good place to start really!

The Naval College - In less contagious times the ceiling is worth a look.

Cutty Sark - it isn't a run without this  boat.

aside - we have a post covid to do list in our house of all the places we want to go when this is over. Enter the Dog and Bell Deptford.

Wot you looking at!
Next stop Surrey Quays - I have never been to this bit of the Thames Path before and it wasn't on my original plan but I liked it.

Onwards to Rotherhithe

The Pilgrims

Silver Jubilee

The lady from 'Dr Salter's Daydream
Now the bit you have all been waiting for there is this bridge that I ran over - I think it is quite famous. Have you heard of it? Tower bridge I think it is called.

There it is...

I always love walking over this bridge

Gratuitous shot of the Thames

The random picture of the gates to St Katherine's is because I discovered a way around it rather than through it entirely by accident so I only skirted the edges - although I do like St Katherine's especially on a sunny day.

Heading back along the North path now - not so many pictures probably because I run this side on the way to work so it is not as exciting - and also because I was, by this point, concentrating on not stopping for a nap.

I couldn't let this big go without a nod to the last time we did this route which was less of a run... more of a crawl... if you get my drift.

Oh how I longed for a nice riverside pint
Then we are just trotting along the Thames path back to Greenwich. The only thing worth mentioning being the little incident with the bridge. I was trying to speed up to get over the little bridge so as to maintain a safe distance from an on coming jogger. Unfortunately by this point I am tired and I miss the top step and fall over - much to his amusement. He did ask if i was ok... after he had laughed at me (and yes from 2 meters away). Naturally - I was fine but I slowed down a bit from there. Not because I was hurt... because I was tired... obviously.

Water (yes it was taken at the start in Blackheath - poetic lisence)

Back to Greenwich
Although I will swear someone kept moving the foot tunnel further away from me.

These buildings at either end of the foot tunnel are some of my favourite London architecture.
The incline now known only as Covid Hill (and yes I walked up it this time)

How can you not love this view? Queens house, Tate and Lyle factory and the O2

And the finish gantry is in sight - no larger than it was when I left!

Then home to the place a run would normally finish and the crushing disappointment that they are no longer doing takeaway!
